Minnesota Viking Stadium

The Minnesota Vikings finally won their battle for a new Minnesota Vikings Stadium to replace the Metrodome.  For years owners of the Minnesota Vikings Football Team have tried to secure a new Minnesota Viking Stadium stating that the Metrodome was not a competitive venue and a new Minnesota Viking Stadium was needed.

On 9/20/05 it was announced that a new Minnesota Viking Stadium would be built in Blaine in Anoka County Minnesota.  The cost of the Minnesota Viking Stadium will be around $675 million as well as further development in Anoka County as part of the Viking Stadium project.  The Minnesota Vikings Stadium will feature a retractable roof similar to other modern football stadiums like Qwest Stadium in Seattle.

Similar to other plans to build a new Minnesota Vikings Stadium the project will be financed partly by owner Zygi Wilf and the NFL and partly by Anoka County and the State Of Minnesota.  Anoka County will institute a new sales tax to fund their portion of the Minnesota Vikings Stadium and the Minnesota Legislature will be asked to pay their 1/3 of the project.  A new Minnesota Viking Stadium will allow for the sale of more Minnesota Vikings Tickets as well as corporate boxes increasing revenue for the Minnesota Vikings organization.

The Minnesota Viking Stadium will spur hyper growth in Blaine Minnesota.  Not only are the Minnesota Vikings locating their stadium and massive tailgater approved parking lot in Blaine.  The area around the Minnesota Viking Stadium will be a development hub with condos new retail and restaurant expansion as well as the home to the Minnesota Vikings home office and off season practices.

Proposed Stadium?

A vote from the Minnesota Legislature on the Anoka County sales tax is what keeps this Minnesota Viking Stadium in the "Proposed" category.  One advantage Zygi Wilf has over Red Mccombs is that he's never used the threat of moving the Minnesota Vikings against the state.  This good will in addition to the development opportunity for the City of Blaine will likely be the keys to success for this Minnesota Vikings Stadium.
